Kinross Primary School

Modern state of the art new primary school designed to inspire students and staff. Blind, window and rooflight automation system installed by Kilpatrick Blane Services.

About The Project

Designed by Norr Architects, and delivered by Robertson Construction in 2017 – the new Kinross primary school was built as part of a £55M redevelopment of the area also including Tulloch Primary and Bertha Park Secondary school, and providing state of the art teaching and learning spaces to over 500 pupils.

Open plan teaching zones support a more modern approach to learning, which in turn is supported by extensive Natural Ventilation.

With extensive automated windows and blinds across the campus, the design and installation of the control strategy and system was delivered by Kilpatrick Blane Services. The system needed to be simple for users to understand while handling a number of complex sequential routines to seamlessly control blinds and their associated windows to supply sufficient natural ventilation while preserving comfort and energy, or operating as required in the event of a fire.

For security of the building the system was designed to close all windows after a specific period of inactivity. The janitor can also close all windows remotely and using feedback functionality from the intelligent window actuators it was possible to remotely verify the window positions and therefore confirm they were in a closed and secure position.
