Greenock Health Centre

Winner of the Scottish Design Award for best health building, this low carbon project takes advantage of natural and smoke ventilation supplied by Kilpatrick Balance Services.

About The Project

As well as providing 5800m2 of high quality new health facilities to Greenock and the surrounding area, this multi award winning health centre was designed to deliver cutting edge facilities while achieving a sustainable and low carbon design.

Designed by Hoskins Architects and recognised through the Scottish Design Award for best health building and a Glasgow Institute of Architects Healthcare award, the building was completed by BAM construction and opened to the community by healthcare providers in 2021.

The design of the building across the sloping site takes advantage of many open plan spaces around a courtyard garden providing a reception, pharmacy and café connected to the outdoors with natural light and ventilation. Agile spaces over the multiple floors provide physiotherapy, GP, clinical areas and offices – all protected via a smoke ventilation solution provided by Kilpatrick Blane Services to ensure safe exit of occupants in the event of a fire.

What’s more, the building takes advantage of automated window controls to provide more effective Natural Ventilation for better comfort, air quality, and energy performance – helping the building to beat its carbon emission targets by 15 percent.
